Inclement Weather Policy

How are families and staff notified of CentroNía’s decision related to inclement weather?

CentroNía will communicate decisions to close or delay opening no later than 6:00 AM in the following ways:

    1. Pre-recorded messages via phone or text message.
    2. Local media outlets will be alerted to closures and delayed openings. Postings will be labeled by site as follows: CentroNía – DC or CentroNía – MD.
    3. Update on CentroNía (www.centronia.org) website homepage
    4. Posts on CentroNía social media platforms:
    5. You may also call CentroNía at 202-332-4200 and listen to an automated voice message regarding inclement weather decisions.

Please note that sites may have different responses depending on local weather conditions so please be sure the notification is relevant to the correct location. Also, if there are no messages related to closure or delayed opening on any of the places listed above, then you can assume CentroNía is operating business as usual. You may always call the front desk for clarification at 202-332-4200.

What does a two-hour delay mean?

A two-hour delay means schools will open two hours later than the normal start time. In the case of a delayed opening CentroNía sites will open as followed:

  • D.C. site will open at 10:00 AM. In the event of a delayed opening, there will be no breakfast, before-care, or drop-off services available. Please make alternate arrangements on these days.
  • In Maryland, our site will open at 10:00 AM in the event of a delayed opening.

A delayed opening due to inclement weather will be made no later than 6:00 AM.**

What if inclement weather develops during the school day?

In the event of an emergency during the school day we will make every effort to have the information available through local media as stated above. We will also make every effort to call parents via automated phone system. Please be sure we have your most current day time phone number and email address so we can contact you. For information please call 202-332-4200.

What do I do if I’m not receiving messages from CentroNía related to inclement weather decisions?

If you are not receiving automated phone calls and/or text messages about closures and delayed openings, then you should speak with a representative from the Admissions Office to ensure your records are updated. To ensure messages are not mistaken as wrong numbers or spam, you might also consider adding CentroNía’s phone number (202-332-4200) to the contacts in your mobile phone.
